I would not say that I was the perfect Boy Scout far from it for the only knot I ever learned to tie was a reef knot any other was far too complicated for me.

As for my uniform, with the exception of a shoulder flash which everyone had I could boast no badges, a disappointment I'm sure to my Scoutmaster, if no one else.

The local greengrocer a kindly man who knew my face like his own offered me a chance to earn some extra pocket money helping out in his shop now and again.

Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth I readily accepted. One afternoon whilst I was taking out some bananas from a box I came across the most fiendish looking spider I had ever set eyes upon, which scared the daylights out of me and had me almost jump out of my skin.I knew at once it not to be an English spider for so hideously ugly it was that it could not possibly have been so. I studied it for several moments as it did me and left its fate in the hands of the grocer.

As for my own hands they would soon be learning how to play the piano from one who had mastered it. Why I should ever have wanted to learn how to play the piano remains a mystery to me, but I did at the time and was given the opportunity to do so.

Once a week an elderly gentleman would come to our house to give me a piano lesson. Barely a few lessons had passed when it became all too clear to the maestro that any piano would be better off without me.

That I had been given a chance to learn how to play the piano was satisfaction enough for me and at such a young age a cultured experience I would always hold dear.

Scrubbing pots and pans in the kitchen at the Hotel Baltic was hard work for little reward made doubly worse as the kitchen catered daily for a large number of diners that ensured a constant flow of dirty pots and pans coming my way.

At some traffic lights I tried desperately not to appear snooty to the German occupants in a car next to us but weakened and could not resist looking down at them with an air of superiority, after all I was sitting in the best of British and with diplomatic plates on it at that.

Most people have a hobby of one kind or another such as painting, mine is writing short stories which I then self-publish for my own personal use. A mix of fiction and non-fiction, I enjoy what I write and showcase some of my work below.

As applause broke out Kapriyanov tucked away in a well hidden spot loaded the sub-sonic ammunition and silencer to his weapon then readied himself for the kill. Twenty minutes later Quinn was still speaking.

Adler was not deceived by the polite softly spoken voice of Crosby sensing a darker side to the man.

"No, I'm not German."

There was a glimmer of a smile on Crosby's face.

"Of course not, we both know that. Suffice it is, that we now have a face to the man who has eluded us for so long. Up until now we had absolutely no idea what you even looked like."

Non-fiction

A sample read taken from At Risk of Harm

After a brief meeting with the Chief Dental Surgeon which yielded nothing, he wrote to me a letter some time later.

The tone of his letter is that of an angry man, punctuated as it is with exclamation marks and the underlining of words.

It is for sure, that I would have fared no better at his hands than I did at the hands of his Polish colleague at the folktandvarden (local dentists) in Sweden.

Joe Luckless struggles to survive in an upside down world, where odd is rapidly becoming the norm.

Into his life come the Crusaders, people who blame the media and immigration for England's woes,

which can only lead them on a path to disaster... and Joe wants to join them.

Grey Days is a light hearted work of fiction, that touches upon some fundamental issues of public concern

in today's current climate.

Capt. W.D. Hardless M.C.

I'm currently gathering and researching material for a forthcoming book about my uncle Captain William Daire Hardless M.C. holder of the Military Cross, a military decoration awarded to officers and other ranks of the British Armed Forces in recognition of an act or acts of gallantry during active operations against the enemy on land.

A brave man whose acts of gallantry did not go unrewarded, and a man I'm proud to call my uncle.
